Light Microscopy Facility (LMF)

UAlg Light Microscopy Facility allows researchers from different backgrounds and with different scientific questions the use of the equipment for their research.
We are the only Microscopy Facility south of Lisbon; therefore we serve a vast geographical area. We work with many researchers from different scientific fields, creating several synergies. As for already ongoing projects, they cover areas such as:

- Oncology and Neurosciences
- Marine research biology
- Developmental biology
- Archeology
UAlg Light Microscopy Facility has the expertise and equipment to conduct experiments in live cell imaging, FRET, FRAP, super-resolution and high sensitive confocal imaging (Airyscan), very fast live cell imaging (up to 400 frames per second 512X512-single channel), transmitted light techniques (phase DIC, phase contrast, brightfield and darkfield), and combining transmission light techniques with fluorescent microscopy. We also have specific software for image processing such as deconvolution and 3D restoration.
We collaborate with the university, teaching specific microscopy subjects and assisting on specialized fluorescent microscopy classes. We organize courses for theoretical bases of microscopy.
Our facility is open. UAlg LMF assists users in planning experiments and gives training and daily support to users.
